Meet me at Virtual Worlds 2008, NYC Apr 3-4

This year seems to be a lot of new and old people in the big Apple.

The focus this is: The Future of Media, Marketing and Entertainment

Virtual Worlds 2008 is where leading media, consumer entertainment, youth brands and agencies come to understand how to monetize their intellectual property using virtual worlds.

Entertainment brands and youth-oriented companies are increasingly integrating virtual worlds into their product mix. Forward thinking brand advertisers and agencies are aligning themselves with high-quality virtual worlds franchises in order to further engage consumers.

“We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us.” Thus wrote Marshall McLuhan, author
of “Understanding the Media." We can consider "Real Virtual Worlds" (AKA the Metaverse) as a new tool, a new medium, crawling and advancing, preparing to pounce on us in the next years. A medium combining entertainment, learning and work into one experience – that is its power and therein its danger.

Knowledge 2.0: How McKinsey & Company is using Web 2.0 to Transform its Internal Knowledge Management

I have written extensivly on knowledge managment in the past. Two years ago I arrived at the sad conclusion that very few companies can actually enjoy knowledge managment. Well McKinsey & Company is definantly one. I had the pleasure of hosing David Chin in a Enterpise 2.0 conference in Janurany 15, 2007. His presnetaiton highlight the committment, and the value that McKinsey hopes to get from KM -- especially when it comes to new tools like the Wiki.

If you need the details please contact David_Chinn AT mckinsey.com

Note: I am publishing this on Feb 24, 2007; but it will move to the Jan 15, 2007 - close to the event.

UFTAA Congress: From a Travel Agent to a Travel BroKer

I had the pleasure to participate in the 40th UFTAA Congress, Delhi, India, 17 September 2006.

The United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations (UFTAA) emanates from the Universal Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations created in Rome, Italy, on November 22nd, 1966. UFTAA was originally founded as a result of a merger of two large world organisations, FIAV and UOTAA, recognising the need to unify travel agencies and tour-operators into one international federation. UFTAA started its operation as a Confederation on January 1st, 2003. It is a non-profit Confederation of international scope, representing Regional Federations comprising some 100 national associations.
The topic of my talk was the changing rule in the industry from an agent to a broker. I used the capital K to note the importanace of knowledge. See the presentation here
